Iuse the required Castrol 5W-40 full synthetic oil purchased at my local VW dealer along with a genuine VW oil filter. I change my oil every 10k miles/1 year, whichever comes first. I just changed it last September 2016 and have driven it less than 5k miles since then. I should be able to go the full year on this oil change.
