Step 2: Start the Engine. Start the engine and set the heater temperature control inside the car to high and the blower motor fan on low. This allows the coolant to reach operating temperature faster by not removing heat from coolant through the heater core. Let the engine run.
Removing and Testing the Thermostat. If you are still unsure whether the thermostat is stuck, perform the following procedure to get an accurate diagnosis. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Drain some of the coolant (a gallon should be enough) so the fluid won't pour out when you perform the next step.
You can remove the cover in situ, unclip it from around the cables then along its length, its not easy but do able. If your not happy doing that, disconnect the battery, remove the connector then take off the cover, insert the connector, connect the battery. With your car not warning up properly, it's probably failing to dry the air. Once you get the thermostat fixed and if you're careful about not letting the aircon run just before you end a journey, you'll probably be fine again. Astra J 1.7CDTi 125 SRi 2011/11 owned for 7 years.
2515 posts · Joined 2015. #3 · Dec 20, 2019. I believe it's a common problem. Vauxhall changed the connectors under the seat for this reason. Sure there is a Technical service bulletin about it. Long time Vauxhall owner (well from 1986 anyway - lol). Currently driving an Astra-J 2.0 diesel auto.

There has been a few threads and posts about members that are having problems with the heater/blower speed controlwith the blower not working until the control is on full or position 3. Cigar lighter / power outlet fuses in the Opel Astra J are the fuses #6 (Power outlet front), #7 (Power outlet rear seat), #26 (Power outlet load compartment) in the Instrument panel fuse box, and fuse #17 (Power outlet) in the load compartment fuse box.
It should only prevent it working on the slowest speed. See the pic below. By the way, Vauxhalls generally use Brown cable as the earth/neutral and have been for at least since the Mk2 Astra. Black normally means something else. If you connect it back up as normal it should work on every speed bar the slowest speed.
